I can finish a rubik's cube in less than 2 minutes. Though this does not in anyway make me wicked smart, it sure looks cool, and really impresses the peons.
I know a guy who can do it in under 25 seconds consistently

I met a guy who built a Rubik's-solving robot out of Legos. 😱

Wicked smart people are most entertaining when they're bored...

no, trust me the rubiks cube is different. my friend taught me how to solve a cube over the span of a few hours to the point where i could solve it myself. a few weeks later, and i was consistently in the sub-2min range.
Just because it takes longer to teach someone how to play a guitar, doesn't mean it makes one a genius. Playing an instrument, say a piano, is just like learning how to type fast or ride a bike. Writing great music, on the other hand, is something that requires genius.

This whole thread seems sorta pointless as everyone is bound to come across someone exceptionally brilliant throughout the course of their undergraduate years.
Why does it make it pointless? Everyone is bound to have come across a premed gunner at least once, yet there are dozens of threads about gunners. And I'll just say that I've met a couple smart people in my life, but I have yet to meet a genius. Also, I think a true genius is very rare and people confuse ability with genius. I agree, it is something more that is impressive, such as someone who can give a rousing speech and then prove some difficult math theorem.

Also, I think genius is something that can be applied universally. Someone who can calculate logarithms in their head (and can only do that) is no better than a cheap calculator. Someone who is genius can do math, understand literature, understand how things work, etc., all very easily.
