Will being a registered dietitian help in admissions?

Hey all, About to begin a coordinated program in dietetics and I'm wondering at all if being registered as a dietitian will make me competetive. Michigan state is where I would be applying. There really aren't a lot of dietetics posts here, so hopefully I can find some nutrition majors out there!

My OPP professor keeps going on about TENSEGRITY and how nutrition plays a role so if nothing else it'll give you something to talk about in the interview.

The schools just first and foremost care about your GPA and MCAT, and your dedication and knowledge of the healthcare system through volunteering and shadowing.

While being a registered dietician may help you, it won't do anything if your GPA and MCAT are low. What are your stats?

Thanks everyone! My gpa is a 3.75 and my sgpa is a 3.83. But I'm taking biochem right now and have a few biology sciences left. I just can't apply to like 15 schools like everyone on here does. My options are pretty limited to MSU (preferably, location) and u of m ( location as well, but is not as close.

I've never heard of tensegrity, thank you I'm going to look this up.

Your grades are excellent, since DO schools tend to have a holistic angle when it comes to medical education, it might be an interesting conversation at the interview. Do well on the MCAT, you should be competitive for many schools.

Schools do not favor students who study one discipline or the other, they look for certain grades and MCAT scores, I am not sure about the latter because the scoring system has changed.

Thanks you guys, this leaves me pretty optimistic. 🙂 I just have to do well in these science courses this semester and next!

I worded that wrong. I know there is a lot more I have to do like extra curricular and things like that. Still a ways to go for me! Thanks for the input
