Hello everyone! I was wondering if I could get some opinions.

I am a bio major. I am starting my junior (third year) of college. I did early admissions, where you start going to college after 3 years of high school. My overall gpa is 3.6, I haven't calculated my science GPA yet, should be the same bc I haven't taken that many non-science courses yet. Florida resident

For EC: I have been a part of student government since freshman year, I started a pre-dental club end of my second year, I started researching spring of my second year, I have 100 shadowing hours, 200 volunteer hours, donated art pieces for a children's hospital fundraiser since high school,

DAT:
AA: 21
TS: 20
BIO: 19
OC: 22
GC: 21
QR, RC: 21
PAT: 22

Should I apply to Columbia, University of Michigan, or any of the top universities?

Should I be doing more? Any other recommendations?

Thank you!

No offense, probably not top universities. Only saying that bc GPA and DAT is average. Usually you’ll need 3.8+ with a 26AA+ to even have a chance. But your stats are fine to get you in anywhere else.

I have similar DAT score to you, which is average/a tad above average for dental school matriculation. So as @evang751 said, you can get into most schools. I still say you have a fair shot at top schools, but they’re more your reach schools. Something I discussed with @artist2022, prestige doesn’t matter, as long as you get your DDS or DMD! I know for certain you will get into dental school— not necessarily the top schools, but you will get into A dental school. At the end of the day, as I said before, you just want your qualifications from a school accredited by CODA. You are a solid candidate for most dental schools! Good luck!

hmm thank you! Good job on the DAT! I think I will be applying to the top schools other than Harvard and UCLA and see how it goes. One of my mentors always says, "The best dental school is the one you go to" and how rankings and prestige doesn't play that big of a role at the end of the day, just gotta pass the boards haha

I agree with your mentor!

Make sure you have a strong personal statement, that could be the door opener to an interview. I have worked with students who have gotten into top schools including Columbia with similar stats. Getting an interview will be the first step, so wow them with your personal statement, it just might open the door to that interview.

Wishing you the best and you should be proud of these scores and a 3.6 SGPA.
