Hi, I am a rph at a chain pharmacy. It never happen before, but it just happened. When I left the pharmacy, i locked the gate but forgot to activate the alarm. By the time i realized and came back in to activate the alarm, the store was unalarm for 1.5 hours. will i be terminated? or even get in a lawsuit? I mean I won't be the first one who did it. Can anyone tell me there might be an exception to this? Thank you. I wish i got reply as soon as possible, can't sleep well.

Nothing will happen to you. Relax......

Once in a blue moon, a floater forget to set the alarm and I get a call to come to the store and set the alarm. You will be fine.

Highly unlikely. It happens to everybody at some time.

Now, if you walked away from the pharmacy, whether retail or hospital, and left a door wide open, which I have seen? That would be another story.

Dude lay the meth pipe down....
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱:eyebrow:

The atmosphere of pervasive fear generated by the big chains is impressive.

It is impressive and intentional. Remember a few years back the district manager would call and tell rph manager we were lucky to have jobs. Legally they can't own our bodies, but they sure want to own our minds. You never want to from "the guy" to "that guy." The guy gets away with almost everything, that guy is set up for failure.

I doubt anything will happen. Ultimately, you activated the alarm. Depending upon who your boss is and how well you are liked or disliked, the consequences can range from "oops, make sure you don't do it again" to being terminated. I believe closing the pharmacy and not activating the alarm may be on Walmart's accountability list as grounds for termination on the spot. The items on that list are enforced on a case by case basis.
I take a picture of the alarm panel once I've set the alarm. That's just to be sure I did and not drive away wondering if I did. Driving back would be a very long drive for me. Not an option.

I've seen this happen at another pharmacy in our district; floater had forgotten to lower the gates on the way out. I say seen, because I was called out to close it, and activate alarm :eyebrow:

I had a floater once leave the gate halfway up....was quite a nice thing to come up on the next morning. There were also pills scattered around the RPh station...tech told me the floater dropped a bottle of pills, said she doesn't use dropped meds, then just kicked them out of her way and never bothered to pick them up. She got promoted to a corporate job.
