why does it seam to me like that my 23AA is not that great. cause i have been going over the posts from the last month and no one has gotten anything below a 20 and many have gotten a 22-23.

should i still worry about not getting in?? or do i just have too much free time on my hands. any one who has gotten in and would like to help me please post you dat and gpa so i dont worry for the next 8 months.

Ouch, those 70th percentiles in RC and PA do kind of stand out. You should still be okay though.

Personally, I think you need to take a few years to "beef" up you application. Maybe volunteer at an inner city clinic 2 days a week while working on a Phd in Bioinformatics.

Mapping the human genome might help you stand out.

We discussed this last year (around this time). If you do a search, I'm sure you'll find plenty of information. You don't need a 20/20 to get into every dental school.

In my opinion, we should just not even reply to these posts. If people like the OP had in fact done their research then they would know whether or not they have a chance at getting in or not. Furthermore, who knows if those scores are real or not. Even if they were real scores, the true purpose of posting this was to brag and not to seek advice. In my opinion, seek out that kind of help when you have not gotten any interview invites by October if you have those scores and GPA.

You may end up being the person you hear stories about...who has the grades, DAT but no character...
you know where I heard so and so had a 4.0 and a 30 on their DAT but was rejected because they had no personality...and then you hear about so and so who has the average GPA and DAT but great recommendations, volunteer work and awesome personality and got in!!

I agree with omaralt; you all need to chill. Why would somebody post just to brag on an ANONYMOUS forum. The anonymity kind of defeats most of the reasons for bragging, doesn't it? There are lots of people out there who aren't SDN addicts like us and don't really have a good handle on what is competitive and what is not.

When I applied, I had stats similar to the OP (I'll probably be accused of bragging here - but actually a little better) and I really had no idea if I was going to get in anywhere. When I got my first post interview packet from a school I let sit on my table for nearly a whole day before I could work up the courage to open it. There just really isn't a lot of guidance for pre-dents at most schools and so many applicants don't know what to expect.

as far as the score is concerned i can send you a copy of the report to get you off my back. and to justify the question, i only i asked because i talked to about 5 people who took the dat within the same month on this post who all have over a 20. drtacoelf got a 23 two days before i did and i know he isnt lying because our percentiles matached exactly for the sections we got the same score on. So i didnt know that there were an infinite number of others who have gotten lower than a 20 but are still applying and failed to ever mention it on the post. Thankyou for all your rude comments because i am now less worried and have changed some of the schools that i was going to apply to for saftey and instead have decided to apply to harvard and u of conn.

If you didn't then i hope you aren't accepted into dental school because i would not want someone with no common sense to be a colleague of mine. If you really didn't know then i suggest you do some research before you post. Which brings me to your question, please do some research on that! It is the most common question asked on here.

qaztake, great numbers! since you are applying to harvard and uconn, are you thinking about columbia?

no. aadsas will not foward your appl to schools w/o your transcript, since they need to verify your grades first. yeah, you should get that in quick.

but, they will foward your appl w/o rec's. however, when your appl reaches the schools you want, very rarely will they even touch it w/o the rec's.

Okay you guys lay off...this post has gotten out of hand. There are no stupid questions...He just wants to cover all his bases and is being thorough about it. So many people are getting 20's these days or at least people that he knows. and that is affecting his confidence level.
Look I'm sorry if I came off as hurtful in my posts, I am only trying to figure out why you don't just accept that you are doing well and stay focused on yourself. Don't worry about so and so getting higher scores or the same for that matter.

i agree with what was said earlier, just doing basic research you should have an idea of the numbers you need. common sense is the key word here. it's easy to find the avg class profiles for many d-schools by looking in the FAQ's. Come on now though, anyone who has a 3.8 and 20+ DAT's should know better then to ask if they have a shot. It's degrading to the people like myself who truly will be borderline in terms of getting admitted. It's like hearing an financially well off person complaining about their interest rate on their masurati payments. i can forgive the post (like it's even up to me), but as a future dental student who is obviously academically intelligent, how about incorporating a little common sense in the future posts.

the reason why i doubt you is because your high scores indicate quite a few brain cells, but a question like that of "can i get in on these scores?" comes from someone who only has half a brain cell. the only case for these two events to overlap (high scores, low question) is if and only if you're bs-ing us.

and, if you do a little search, you wouldn't have to start a brand new post and clog up the board. there are numerous threads out there discussing the dats/getting in alread.

nice post vandy, although i have a friend whom is just wicked insane intelligent, but you could convice her the sky is green. but it's been my experience that these people that are obviously gifted academically but not so there when it comes to common sense/street smarts don't come out in the open when they are unsure of themselves. most of the people that fit this profile like to keep things private. they don't go running to forums which are obviously very public unless they need some ego stroking. if this isn't then case, then I have a bridge I'm trying to sell.

That is something very interesting. When I took the DAT in July 2003 my PAT was also 19 but I was in the 91% percentile. My 23 AA was 99.3%. Hmmm....

Marshall, the percentile is just that... a percentile. The actual scoring changes a little bit from year to year depending on how well that particular round of applicants was prepared.

... and how can you possibly remember your exact scores along with the percentiles ??? That is a truly amazing feat. I can't remember what I got on Wednesday's pharm exam much less the results of a test I took a year ago.
