Hey guys, just looking for some advice on what I should expect this upcoming cycle

GPA : 3.4
sGPA: 3.3
bcpGPA: 3.1

I have yet to take the DAT. I would like to think I have ok ECs and can get good letters of rec from my dentist and a few profs. Assuming I score a 20 on the DAT which is about the average for most schools, what are my chances. I am a resident of Michigan so obv my top schools would be UDM and UofM. Let me kno what you guys think.

In my opinion, your 3.1 bcp is low and will hurt you. I think your sGPA and overall are a little low for Michigan as well. I'm not as familiar with UDM, but I would expect it to be about the same. I would apply to some of the newer private schools if possible. For example, LECOM, Roseman, Midwestern-IL, etc... I believe those might be a stretch as well, but you may have a better shot if you get your application in early. It's even more difficult to really predict because you don't actually have a DAT score yet. I think, with your slightly low gpa across the board, that you should be aiming at 20, or maybe even higher, on the DAT, though. Best of luck.

Your GPA's are low (below average)... You'll need to do really well on the DAT to get looked at. Good luck!

that BCP is very weak and needs some boost, however until you take the DAT no one can give you any real advice.

As others have stated, you'll need to see what you score on the DAT before anyone can give good advice. I would suggest you aim for 21+ on all the sections if you really want to stay in state.

I can possibly bring my sGPA to 3.4 and my bcpGPA to a 3.3 after this semester and a summer semester but that would be without the +/- in the gpa calculations... does anyone know of schools that specifically look at GPA w/o the +/- ?? maybe I would be better off applying at those schools because with the +/- i am about 0.15 points lower. Again I kno judging without a DAT score would be tough but until I take it in May I can use all the help I can get. Thanks!

Take the DAT and then analyze your shot. Most schools wont ignroe the +/- that wouldnt make any sense. Its not like your real grades are A's vs. A- or B's vs. B-

I have almost identical GPAs, but did well on the DAT, and had success this cycle. You can do it! Rock the DAT and apply early. Good luck!

Yes, you have a chance

I don't think the +/- aspect will make a huge difference anyways between your two GPAs. Don't worry so much about your GPA as of now, just get good grades to bring it up as much as you can. What you should worry about is your DAT, because that's what can really help you or break you at this point. Good luck.

lol y do u always repeat the same thing that I say.. just kind of weird...

get that ada book with the numbers in it. just apply to schools where your GPA is close to the average or is on par with their average.

I had similar stats to you and ended up with an 18 AA on the DAT (didn't study properly). Fortunately I received 2 interviews and an acceptance without an interview this cycle. I have been working on my EC's for quite a while and I took a good chunk of time writing a strong personal statement. I also filled out those secondary apps early.

Aim high on the DAT as others have said, apply to 20 schools if you can afford it. That should land you an interview or two.

Good Luck :luck:

that's a thing? pray tell where?

IMO, the DAT is the great denominator. Your grades are a little low, but not detrimental. Continue to improve. If you can't do well on the DAT though, it's gonna be hard to get your foot in the door to land an interview. I'm guessing probably 21+ like others have stated. That means study for the DAT like you study for class- get whatever resources you need, and do well. REALLY rock the DAT or you may get passed over.

Looks like I will have a decent chance assuming I rock the DAT... Honestly, I will be aiming for 21+... taking a full load in the summer and acing those classes can prob bring up my gpa 0.1-0.2 points... Anyways i'm about to crack down and kill this DAT... When's the latest would you guys suggest i take the DAT... should i book a date in may or is it ok to take it in mid to late June?

Take it when you are ready and comfortable. That's how you'll get a score you want. If you think you'll be fully prepared in May, go for it. Otherwise, aim for June.

Agree. But also realize you may not do as well as you hope on your first try. I suggest taking it when you feel ready, but with enough time to retake in the same cycle if you need it (min of 90 days later). I needed to retake and did much better the second time. With the right resources on the first round, I probably wouldn't have needed to retake, though.

I recommend the DAT prep guides that can be found on this site. IMO Kaplan course was not worth the money however some of the material they provided were nice (blue book and internet sources).

And ya, sorry for not getting back earlier, I was accepted to Creighton without an interview (miracle). Creighton is the only school I know of that does this and it's pretty rare from what I can tell.

GL OP :luck:

should i postpone submitting my application to aadsas after summer classes???? if i get all A's i can possible raise my bcpGPA to a 3.2... so what do you guys think? submit it after summer classes or submit it early as possible and use the academic update sometime in november to upload my summer grades???

Always submit your app as early as you can. It takes weeks for it to process. Even people with stats like 3.8 and DAT of 21+ can have problems sometimes if they submit late.

Go with option two

You're shooting in the dark w/o DAT scores. Worry about nailing the DAT and not the hypotheticals
