Hey everybody.

So here is what I am looking at. Bare with me! Any advice would be great appreciated.

I have taken all of my classes at a CC thus far. I have been financially independent since I was 16. Parents give me zero support so it is all on me. Anyway so at the end of this upcoming year I will have 83 credit hours. And let's just say I get a 4.0, which I am expecting. I work very hard for my grades. I had 2 or 3 B's from my first year of school because I was working overnights at the same time. Brutal.

Anyway that would put me at:
83 credit hours
3.9 oGPA
4.0 sGPA

I am then transferring to a 4-year to take Organic 1 & 2 which will wrap up my prereqs. I am then going to take Genetics, Ecology, Biochem, Microbiology and Gen Physiology along with a couple other electives during Fall 2014/Spring 2015. I plan on taking the DAT January or February 2015. Assuming I get 21+ how do my chances look?

At that point in time my stats would be: hypothetically speaking.

oGPA: 3.8
sGPA: 3.8
DAT 21+
80+ hours shadowing
100+ hours volunteering

I would then like to apply to Dental School June 2015. I will not have a degree at this point. But will have all prerequisites and the DAT. It would be great if instead of going into another year of debt to complete my bachelors degree I could just get accepted to d-school. I have noticed how most school only require 90 credit hours which I would have. I am also aware that some schools flat out do not accept CC credits but most have limits. Say 60 credits. So I could use 60 of the CC credits, my 35+ 4-year and have over 90 total with all the prerequisites and stats needed.

Would I stand a chance?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and hopefully give me some advice!

Keep in mind that the 60 CC credits are only for NON-CORE classes. None of your pre-requs should be taken at a CC.
those credits would be if you went there for the 2 first years and then finished up in a 4 year university for all the English/MAth/ etc... courses you need to take.

courses such as BIO 1, Bio 2, gen chem etc should be taken at a fully accredited 4-year university.

That is not true. I have spoken to several dental schools that have said prerequisites at a CC are just fine.

If only ds dealt with "hypothetical" scenarios.

I am just laying out a probable situation. Under these circumstances would I have a chance?

You have a good reason for having gone to a CC. Some schools are more lenient with their requirements; I'd apply to those. Blow the top off the DAT and schools may be willing to give you a bit more "wiggle room," but that's just purely speculation.

Awesome thank you so much!

Since you are just dealing with "probable situation" you can be assured that you have a 100% probability of getting acceptances to all the school you apply to.

Have a bad day or something?

because you go to a CC, you probaly won't be able to score over 20. the study load will just be too much for you.

I don't know why everyone hates on CC prereqs so hard. I guess if you aren't majoring bio, then it might look bad. If you do well on the MCAT, it doesn't matter.

You have absolutely zero clue what you are talking about.

Not true, but that made me laugh my ass off for a bit.

And to the other post, Im not hating on CC???????
When did I say he wasnt gonna make it?
This is from personal experience, the colleges Im applying to all (not all, but the ones I called) said that CC credits will not be accepted (for pre requs) only for general education and etc.

Someone must feel like he/she has to justify their expensive education somehow lol. I hope you aren't a future classmate of mine in dental school. 👎

Dear Son of Zeus, I would try to earn my degree first if I were you, or try to get into a school's early admit program that some schools have for in-state applicants because those are the only people that can get in before they earn a degree when they start dental school. Also, I think it's ridiculous the prejudice that dental schools have against CC's because you often learn more in a CC classroom because the teacher to student ratio is better and the professors usually want to actually teach instead of just do research.

I don't go to a CC, but I go to a very tiny private institution. Luckily, I have merit aid and live at home, so it isn't very expensive. More than that, though, I LOVE the small class sizes. I learn so much and am able to be very involved! Granted, there are people that come out of my program making Cs in all of their classes and barely scooting by, but I think that can happen anywhere. So much is about involvement.

I was worried, though, that people might discount my GPA because I go to a pretty much "unknown" school; they could maybe think that my grades weren't hard to obtain (but they most certainly were!). As such, I set out to kill the DAT to show schools what I was worth. 😀 Best of luck to you, SonofZeus!

Same here glimmer! I go to a super tiny private university. The class size is very small but that's what works best for me. I can't do lectures of 200+ people :/ lol

If you are really the son of zeus you should have no problem!
