Hi everyone,
Im an incoming junior at UCDavis. I am currently shadowing a doctor this summer in my home town (i go home for the summer , i am not in davis) and I asked him about doing research at his facility (he has had multiple students do research there & got published over the summer). He told me I had time and i should just do research next summers (summer after junior year). I was planning to apply to medical schools the summer after junior year but I want to be able to include my research experience into my application (hopefully get published too). Do you guys think i would have enough time to do research and apply for medical school?
In other words, my research would probably be finished at the end of that summer but do you guys think i would have enough time to include everything in my app and submit in time?
It seems like most of my pre med friends are doing research the sophomore summer or DURING junior year so summer after jr year just seems like its pushing it to me :/

Well there's only a month of summer left, so you couldn't really do anything this summer even if he said yes.

I'd suggest doing research at your school if possible. A long term project would probably be better.

Also, maybe others can answer this, but do people really get published over one summer? Maybe I'm just a noob, but that seems awfully short for an entire paper.

No, he told me i could do research next summer. This summer im just doing shadowing for him. I go to UC davis so our summer is usually from june to end of sept or beginning of oct.
I asked a few students there and one said he finished within 3 months. another just 1 month. Keep in mind the doctor is doing most of the writing (student gets some credit).
