Will I have to report this on my AMCAs as part of criminal history?

A few months ago I was pulled over for a moving violation, namely an unsafe lane change. The ticket would have been about 25-75 dollars, however I completely forgot about the incident. What makes it worse is that I forgot about my court date and a few days ago I received in the mail a warrant for my arrest for being in contempt of court. Bail is now a few hundred dollars, which I'll be able to pay off, however I was wondering, does something like this appear anywhere is your medical school application?

Cool Story Bro. But seriously, this happens quite frequently to people I hear. I mean it sounds ridiculous if it has never happened for you, it sounded ridiculous to me when I found out. Looking for some serious feedback.

I would find it odd if you didn't have to report arrest warrants, though a call to AMCAS would clear this up pretty quickly.

Yeah, any time you get arrested it will appear in a CBC. It shows that you are lazy or don't believe in the legal system. Good luck getting into medical school with that.

Call AMCAS and ask them. I don't think regular posters here have that kind of experience in general...

Contempt of Court is a misdemeanor, and yes unless you can talk the judge into dropping the charge you will have to report it.

That said, while a minor offense started this, blowing off a court date is not a minor offense anymore so be prepared to explain more than "i just didn't remember"

I am definitely in contempt, but I think I think there may be two types, civil and criminal. I think I fall in the previous for being a bonehead (again I simply forgot to go to trial....). Do you know if there is any sort of distinction?

This would be something to write/speak with your judge about.

I guess my course of action to take is this.
1) Figure out if it is indeed a misdemeanor (does anyone know how to go about doing this, like how I can check my own record or an agency to contact?)
2) If it's not a misdemeanor, awesome. If it is, schedule an arraignment with a judge. Or go about getting in expunged from the record. The wait for a hearing is 8 months. Ridiculous.

Does anyone have experience expunging things from the record? How much does it cost and how long does the process usually take. I'm working in a 7-8 month timeframe (apps open June1!)

Lord almighty, a lot of SDN'ers getting into some trouble with the law lately.

Pics or it didn't happen.

I mean it's simple. I got a ticket. I didn't go to court. The want people paying their tickets, following the law, so for the people that don't (regardless of the intentions) you get smacked with an arrest warrant and a huge fine. I pissed off the courts off and now they are flexing their muscles in my face by suspending my license and making me pay $650.

Guess you won't be blowing off any more tickets....

Seriously though, it is unlikely you will be able to have it expunged before the next cycle. If you want to have any chance at all, talk to a lawyer, they are the only ones who can help you with that.
