hey guys, Ill be starting dental school this Fall. Since I'll be relocating to Boston I wont be taking my comp with me ,however I've been thinking of buying a laptop. But lately I've been wodering if I'll really need a comp for dental school besides e-mail and stuff. I mean do we have to actually type out papers and stuff. I can always use the comps at school for e-mail etc but wouldprefer one at home if i'llbe using it a lot. Let me know??

Most schools nowadays will make you purchase a laptop through them. It's best to check with the school that you are attending.

I will be bringing my own computer.....since I am a CD Burning napster freak. Plus, the occassional online chat with friends back home wont hurt either.

You'll definitely need a computer. Lot's of classes have little assignments, and they also usually require you to get the notes off of a web page. If you don't feel like always doing this from school, then I'd suggest getting one.

Tufts do not require you to buy one, but it wuldn't hurt to get one. HOw else are you going to participate in the Student Doctor forum

My friend's sister had to buy a laptop through UCLA while she was there. She didn't have one when she moved down there, so I am not sure if it was a requirement for students to have the exact same brand/model.

I would ask the schools before buying anything...

I don't know if you're headed to Tufts, BU or Harvard, but I know that BU has a DVD curriculum and they sell you a Sony Laptop for a couple of G's...don't know the model or exact price. Tufts doesn't require you to have laptop and I don't know about Harvard. I was accepted to tufts and I'm not gonna buy one...they have comp labs that you can use at school and in the library.
