I have a question regarding Calculus. I took Calculus I this summer and made a C. While talking with other pre-pharm students they insisted that I needed to repeat Calculus because it is considered a science related-course and only an A or B is acceptable of all Pharmacy Schools. Is this true, will I need to repeat Calculus? :scared:

Most schools will accept a C... as long as your other grades are competitive and your overall science GPA is good enough I don't think you should worry about repeating it.

agree. i wouldn't re-take any of the classes unless you had C or below. dont worry about it, if your other subject's GPA are solid.

Some schools only look at math/science GPA and usually Calculus is the only math that is factored in. Like the others said, if you have great science grades it will be okay. If you are only making B's in your sciences, then the C will drop you below a 3.0 which is not competitive.

If you are applying to a school that uses pharmcas and retake the class and get a B, they will average the B & C, which may not even make much of a difference in the gpa average. Most of the pharmacists and M.D.'s I work with speak of calculus with much disdain and have said they struggled to get C's, hence, they are all doing very well now.

Are you absolutely, positively, 100% sure that if you retake calculus, you'll raise your grade by two letter grades? No? Then don't retake the class.

I myself have a C in calculus. There's no possible way I'll raise that grade, so I'll just blow my other classes out of the water and forget about calc.

Thanks to EVERYONE!!!!! Speaking from your experiences and I know many of you are further ahead in your preparation to PharmD, can you explain how the GPA is tabulated in reference to your accumulative GPA having a 3.0-3.8 vs the GPA of science courses having a 3.0-3.8. Are they considered separately? Thanks again.

Don't worry...I got a C+ in Calculus and I'm in Pharmacy School!! They take your average GPA for all Science/Math courses. Good luck!
