I'm a long time reader of these forums and am aware of the potential to replace old grades with a retake grade, and feel like this is my best opportunity to pursue becoming a DO one day. But I often wonder if it's truly feasible in my case, even with re-takes.

Here's why:
my cGPA is 3.03 and my sGPA is lower, like 2.74 or so. I have a science degree, and plan to retake courses I have a C or lower in, but cannot retake all of my lower grades because I was in an allied health program that you must be admitted to, so for example, I could retake a course in general chemistry or something because these allied health programs are limited to those who are enrolled in the program, and unfortunately for me that is where some courses are an anchor for my sGPA - although I believe I'll be able to retake a few courses that fall into this category - because the courses will be similar enough.

I'm frustrated and embarrassed by some of my grades, and want to really become a DO. I've done some shadowing. I truly understand it's not over until I decide it is, but am wondering if it's worth aiming for. I plan to retake up to 7-8 courses depending on time and finances. And I also still need to take most of my pre-reqs (retake chem 1, taking chem 2, orgo 1 &2, physics 1&2, maybe biochem) I took the general bio sequence and received an A- and a B, but my academic history is full of ups and downs. My last full time semester I received a 3.6 overall over 14 credits, but the real test is going to be taking the pre-reqs part time while working full time evenings at my allied health job. I plan to do retakes/pre-reqs/upper level sciences part time - maybe 2 a semester (1 pre-req, 1-bio/upper level) at a time. I know ace-ing classes will significantly turn my GPAs around, but have never really shown that academic power yet. But the problem at my local community college/universities is that they grade on a straight scale, thus no +/- so there's a huge fall from a 4.0 to a 3.0, and when your GPA is as low as mine is, every little bit helps. Who has overcome something like this? Thanks to anyone who can help

I was in a worse situation a year ago. Both of my GPAs were about 2.7. I retook a handful of classes and did well on the MCAT. I have received a bunch of interviews and have been accepted. If you can get your GPA above a 3.2 and do well on the MCAT you should be competitive. You really need to do well on the MCAT. Bad GPA plus mediocre MCAT will make it hard. Keep working hard. You certainly can still become a very competitive applicant.

Retake a years worth of classes. Crush MCAT. Keep working on EC's and get DO LoR.

You have already asked me this question and I have already answered it in a previous conversation.
