With the enormous rise in tuition these past years, I believe more and more people will feel HPSP scholarships may be the best way to take care of student loans. When I talk to my friends (we live in a state with no dental school) who are planning to be dentists, the costs of dental school does seem to be at least in the back of all their minds. However, although they seem to agree HPSP is a good deal, they all seem confident that they'll be able to handle their student loans without the help of the military. Personally I feel it's crazy to take on that kind of debt after you finish dental school-especially in this economy. When more and more people start to feel this way, do you think it might eventually be hard to obtain military scholarships?

watch the part where they interview the lady that talks about her loans from dental school (up to about the first 13 minutes)

I met a young dentist a month ago. He graduated from UPenn, paid off his $350K student loans within 3 years, made a down payment on a fancy house and drives around in a 5-series BMW.

I'm not sure if a military scholarship is necessary.

If you have the opportunity to take the military you would be foolish not to

I heard from a recruiter last week that there's less than 20 four year Navy HSPS's left nationwide. And if you are unaware, they are filled on a rolling basis. So if you want one, get an application together quickly. If you live in northern Cali, I know a very good recruiter who works quick. Just message me.

What kind of dentist is he? Ortho, Endo, OMS, Peds, or general?

Ok so far, I have only watched up to the first 15 minutes and cannot comment on the rest of the video. I think there are a lot of truths so far to what they are saying, BUT...

Concerning the female dentist in the video, I think this is not at all the norm, and I think a lot of her problems are her own fault. Did you really listen and look at the number she shows in the video?! While i think the projected income for 2010 set forth on that paper is really high, how after 20+ years (first year was 1989) of practice is she only earning (as verbalized by her) 80k/yr?!?!?! This leads me to believe that her problems are more of her own making and probably a string of bad decisions that she probably continues to make.

Ok...finished the video. Still think there a lot of truths, but I still think there is a lot of propaganda BS along with it.

Bottom line- you don't need a military scholarship to thrive, but It definitely won't hurt if you want to serve your country.
