My grades are kinda meh.
With a 3.6 GPA with a somewhat prestigious college, and it's looking I will probably only going to get a 27-30 on Mcat. I'm kinda worried about my chances of getting it when I apply. I know grades matter the most, but I'm wondering if my EC's in college will probably give me an edge when I apply.

1. 3 Summers of research and volunteering at the local Veteran's Administration Hospital
-Currently a "Worker without Compensation"
2. Member of my major's honor society. (Name alludes me right now, its on the resume)
3. Pledgecaptain of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity,
4. Was a chairman at Student Government.
5. BigBrothersBigSisters Brother

I know I am lacking in actual medical experience, but I'm already scheduled to begin a shadowing program sometime next month.

So yeah, I'm pretty nervous. I'm kinda asking if my EC's will basically supplement a "meh" worthy performance gradewise into allopathic school. I'm willing to go DO too if that's the case.

Your lackluster ECs will get you rejected even with great stats. You have absolutely nothing related to medicine, which is a sure way to be rejected when applying to medical school. I don't think DO schools would overlook your lack of medical experience either. Don't apply this year would be my recommendation.

I appreciate the honesty of everyone who has responded and I understand that I'm lacking in clinical experience which is something I am seeking to remedy now.

But perhaps I wasn't clear exactly that I meant I was actually working the past few summers at a Veteran's Administration Hospital?

Well that's a lot better then. Your ECs are still 'meh' and cookie cutter IMO but you have a decent shot at mid or lower tier schools depending on your MCAT. I would still try to do some shadowing so you can update schools about it.

I especially like #1 and 5. You have shown off your altruism. But just to make sure, how much volunteer work did you do at the VA?

Just need to add that no amount of ECs will salvage a poor MCAT or low GPA. if you indeed get a 27, then your prospects for MD are rather dim; you're still fine for any DO program, including mine.
