Hi all,

I'm a 2017 college grad planning to apply in the 2018-19 cycle and am beginning to ask my old professors for recs. I have several science profs and research PIs who know me well and can write solid letters, however for the life of me I can't think of a single non-science professor who I knew well enough to ask for something like this. My undergrad does committee letters and has no specific rec requirements for that, however I'm wondering if not having a non-science rec within the committee packet will hurt my chances at some schools? I took a few non-science lectures and did really well in most, however I just did not think to get to know the profs at the time (terrible mistake). Alternatively, I had wonderful PhD-candidate TA who I know well from a humanities class who I could ask, but would this look even worse? Really conflicted, so I appreciate all your help!

Thanks so much.

Oops, just saw that someone else asked a similar question recently. Looks like a committee letters overrides school-specific requirements.

It almost always does, and any school with an issue with this will contact you if they find requirements not met (or you can contact them). Standardized evaluations like committee letters are favored over sci+non-sci because they are seen as more reliable and objective.

Good luck to you!
