Will programs contact applicants before the Match?

Will the programs tell me that they will rank me before the Match?
If I don't get any information from a program, does it mean that program won't rank me?

I would wager that the majority of programs do not contact applicants unless they are contacted first.

I read the thread and I thought programs might respond differently "after interview" and "before Match".

i remember being contacted by several programs before the match. it all depends on the program and where you fall on their list (or if you fall on it at all). I know my PD has been in contact with our highly desired candidates.

Depends on the program and how badly they want you and if they generally do that. I know Yale contacts all applicants regardless of where they are ranked, while some programs have not contacted me at all and still others have emailed me multiple times. It is just whatever that department does for candidates and how they respond depending on where you match. There is no set guideline.
