Will remediating one class pretty much destroy my chances at rads?

I am a non-trad first year student who took quiet some years off before entering med school. And I had a rough time adjusting to the academic atmosphere. As a consequence, I unfortunately failed one course and then passed the remediation, but the failure mark will remain on my transcript along with the fact that I remediated successfully. If I were at a top 5 med school, and do well enough on STEP I, clerkships, 2nd year, and etc., do I still have a chance at matching into any top 20 rads programs? Thank you guys for your input in advance.

I think you got a good shot if you took step 1 and do well on the clerkships. No one cares too much about the first two years unless you repeat a whole year. Are you really thinking about switching specialties because you can't get into.a top program? There is a major flaw in your decision making there.

I had to remediate one basic science course. It pretty much meant just taking the test over again, didn't have to repeat the course, but it did show up on my transcript. This never came up in interviews and I matched at my #3

Thank you guys for the encouraging words

thRob// would you mind me telling how you think you overcame that "flaw" in your application? Did you have stellar STEP I score, or good recommendation, etc?

Also how was it maked on your transcript? Did you have the remediated pass shown next to F mark for the entire course? or was it specified that you only failed one test and passed the course overall.

I had Step 1 in the 240s, no clinical honors, decent amount of research w/ a year off in one of the research fellowships (which, honestly, may have hurt me - people generally seemed much more clinical than I anticipated, even at universities with a lot of NIH funding). I only interviewed at University programs in the Midwest.

It is on my transcript as P*, which is elaborated lower as pass with remediation

What's wrong w/ attending a mediocre radiology residency? If this is the specialty you want to practice for the rest of your career, it sounds odd you would only do it if matching into a top program.

I'd be willing to bet my rent for this month that most PDs saw P* and didn't even care enough to look at what the * meant.

Since you are not in a top 20 medical school, you'd better drop out and go to PA school.

I am in a top 20 medical school actually. I should have worded my question differently to ask if I had a chance at a top 20 radiology program.
