Hi guys,
I messed up badly on my DAT and realize I need to study a lot harder on my DAT!
PAT: 19
QR: 15
RC: 17
Bio: 16
GC: 18
OC: 19
AA: 17
I will retake November 19, 2012, but my question is should I still apply this cycle? My gpa is 3.44 and Science gpa is 3.1. I am extremely sad that I did not do well, but don't know what my next steps are going to be concerning applying. Should I even apply this cycle or should I wait until next cycle with better test scores. If I do apply, do I tell them I am retaking?

Personally, I think I don't have a big shot this cycle and should wait until next cycle. I want to get into California schools since I am from California, but willing to go to others. Thanks!

Get a second opinion, but if I were you, I would 90% not apply this cycle.

It's hard to hear but, your QR and Bio scores aren't up to par. You have a good PAT and OC score, but it doesn't offset the QR/bio and the average RC/GC scores. Your AA is also a bit below the average accepted score of 19.

If your GPA was 3.7+, it might've overshadowed the DAT score, but as of now, it'd just be a waste of money considering the cycle is very late. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I just needed to confirm my inevitable fate of needing to wait another year to be more competitive.

If you want to stick in california then I think your only best chance is at western. If the rest of your app is good than go ahead and apply. I met an international student at my test center who got an interview at western with a 16AA with a 3.4-.46 GPA but he was eventually rejected. It is all up to you but I am just letting you know that it is NOT impossible to get an interview.

Depending on how strong your EC, personal statement, letters, ect are, I'd at least apply to a few in state schools. You never know if something about your app sticks out. Even if you get an interview but aren't accepted I think it would be good practice. Good luck!

If I do apply, should I tell them I am retaking my DAT?
I know California schools are tough to get into and I think I am not competitive test wise at this time. I think I am fine with my recommendations, EC. Thanks for the advise people.

Yes, I would tell them you are retaking. If you don't, there is a chance they will decline you and then never look at your new scores.

I would 100% apply this cycle. I applied in July with my old DAT scores. I just took my retake on August 30th. I think there is a good chance that you will get post-december interviews if you make a significant improvement on your scores!

JUST wait for next cycle to be sure unless you 100% sure you can do better. I have similar scores but will wait for next cycle...Good luck
