will taking the MCAT June 18, vs. May 28 still be an "early application"?

So even though my application probably won't be verified until like late july (right?), I figure I can get most secondaries done by early august as most of the secondary questions from schools will be up on SDN. So will taking the mcat three weeks later prevent me from having an early application?

3 weeks isn't a huge amount of time, and if it can bump up your score some, take the extra time. The MCAT isn't something you want to rush. Good luck!

yes, you will definitely still be early.

On the same note, will taking the July 2nd MCAT lead to an early application as well? Thanks!

You'll be about in the middle of the pack. I'd suggest you have your application submitted to AMCAS early on and apply to schools based on your lowest practice MCAT. If you do well, you can apply to more. Make sure to turn the secondaries around fast for that second round of apps. I'd say secondaries done by early August is still pretty early.

But aren't the secondaries all posted online SDN when people get them? As long as your secondaries are done by early August wouldn't July still also be as early as June to submit your app to AMCAS?

So is it possible to send in the primary AMCAS application without having an official MCAT score?

i am confused. can i apply and be verified while i am taking 7 more units in the summer (july - august). I will have my mcat score, prereqs and everything done short of a 7 unit school requirement that I need to graduate. will i not be verified untill I finish these 7 units (which are non-major, non premed)

You'll be fine. Just report those classes as classes that you plan to take in the future. They'll verify your grades against what is on your transcript.

Yeah, you can do it. The schools you apply to will just put your application on hold until they have your MCAT score. It's (obviously) much smarter to go ahead and get everything verified and checked out by AMCAS while you're waiting for your score since that'll effectively be dead time for you anyway.

And if I did this would I then send the MCAT score to the specific schools or to AMCAS?

That's fine... you just better really do well the first time because you will really be pushing it if you need to retake.

Well, I have first had experience as I too took the June 18th last year.

I scored fairly well, 34Q.

I have 4 interviews, attended 2 with another next Monday.

0 acceptances so far.

I sent my app the day I got my scores which was dumb. Please send your app in before you get your scores to at least 1 school you are def going to apply to. Then when you get your scores you will already be complete at AMCAS and you can send the rest in at the end of July instead of August like me.

I agree with the above. I did the same as Dirty Justice with the June 18th date. I didn't get verified until late August, which seemed to have been the middle of the pack. I wish I would have submitted the day I took my test because I knew it was no different than my practice MCATs.

I took all the AAMC practice tests and had a good idea of what I was going to get, but held off on what schools I was applying to until I got my score. So definitely submit your app before you get your score back, then add schools later as needed.

On the flip side, my practice tests had very little deviation from the average, and AMCAS suggests "Schools prefer you look at your MCAT score before applying" (no direct quote, I remember reading that somewhere on AMCAS and worried about submitting without it)

I submitted my AMCAS with all my schools in June, then took the MCAT July 18th. Has worked out just fine. What wildcat has suggested may not be a bad idea either.

Also keep in mind that since most med schools start sending out secondaries in July (some Aug), a 3-week gap between May and June won't really be that big a time difference.

I don't really think it makes a difference if you list all of your schools upfront because adcoms will not penalize for a pending mcat score. However, just be sure to list the pending mcat test date in amcas so the schools who screen for secondaries will know to hold off evaluating your application. This is especially important for those who have already taken an mcat before and are hoping to do better on a retake. You don't want to be rejected in prescreening based on the old score.

I just didnt want to get my MCAT score back and would have wasted money by applying to schools that I could have only had a shot with a good score.
