So I will be applying in june 2013 but I do NOT know many professors so far. I am planning on taking 2 upper level science classes in the spring of 2013 and get to know the professors that teach them a lot by going to office hours often. What I was wondering is that would there be enough time for me to collect the letters and have them done before june 2013? (spring semester ends around early may).

Thanks.

Yes. You have more than enough time. Don't wait until May though. i would start asking around Mid march to get them by April or so. Be sure you get to know your proffessors starting on Day 1 and it will be that much easier for you. Good luck!

Hard to say - depends on how prompt the professors are, obviously. I asked three professors at the beginning of this semester and only one has sent it in so far. That said, I let them know it wasn't terribly urgent. Spend the first month or two getting to know the professors then asking before the semester is out... End of semester can be pretty hectic for professors - best to give them an opportunity to write it during a mid-semester lull. Best of luck.

I'd start getting them now. Seriously. I had an awesome letter all set up. But then the professor had a family member get sick and they disappeared from the school for a while, and then it was too late. Make no assumptions. Get those letters ASAP!
