Will working with animals look weird?

I have a pretty cool opportunity to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary. I love animals and I think it would be fun. However, would it look weird if I had this on my app/would it raise questions about why I'm not applying to vet school? I saw a thread recently about an applicant that had thousands of hours of insect research and people said it came off as weird.

Edit: I have clinical volunteering and non-clinical volunteering w/ human interaction

It might seem a little weird if that's your only "clinical" exposure. If the rest of these EC's involve humans, you should be fine.

I agree with what the others said. To add, I volunteered at the local Humane Society 1x per week during senior year. Massive stress relief that I got to add to my app!

Idk why insect research per se would be weird. There are many important insect models to study human disease and many insects cause or are vectors of human diseases.

Otherwise, just be yourself--do it. It's very rewarding. Just be a human and do what you want with your life.

No! It makes you seem like a real person, with other non medical interests. Have you ever spoken to a pre-med? Most dull, cookie cutter people there are.

I think it's fine to do that as long as you show that you rather be a doctor than a vet. You can even list this as a hobby of yours
