Will you learn the same tricks a classroom course teaches you if you just use the books for MCAT prep?

For example, Kaplan uses the “mapping” method for verbal.

EK uses something else that seems to be a little more popular for verbal.

My question is if I just used the Kaplan books (not saying I will) without taking the class, would I learn about mapping and other test taking strategies that would be covered in a Kaplan classroom course?

Same with EK. Without taking their course, will the books give you key tips that you need to get a high score?

Just to be clear, I’m not talking about content review. I know which companies are better than the others, but I was wondering if their books go over all the test taking strategies.

Thoughts on this?

you will get a lot of the strategies if you buy the books designed to do so... from personal experience as a kaplan alum and teacher, though, you'll miss out on a lot of little hints and anecdotal tips that we can give out during class. it's only up to you to decide how much that's worth.

As far as books are concerned (not referring to the classes), there is only one company which actually gives strategies/tips/tricks for the exam - Berkeley Review.

The only exception is the EK verbal review book, which lays outs its verbal strategy.
