I dont think you have to go into primary care. But, since the school is in mississippi, which is really hurting for primary care physicians, and the fact that most DO schools like to tout their emphasis on primary care, they are probably looking for people who want to do so.
Primary care is often considered Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics. I have also read that some consider OB, Psy are sometimes considered as primary care.

They can't force you to go into a certain residency. But their goal is definitely to turn out a significant number of primary care physicians.
Yes, as Shinydome elucidated above, primary care encompasses a wide array of vocations. Don't worry if you're considering other fields such as surgery, EM, rad, etc. Whatever your cup of tea is mention it and focus on how you want to be a MS DO physician. Honestly, you'll decide on your intended residency training when you're doing clinicals. You are never lassoed into any set field (primary care) regardless of a medical school's mission statement. It's your scores and rotations that really determine your matching limits.

my boyfriend would love you. i would've written that as "to everyone they receive a primary application from" and he would've been all up in arms about my prepositions or whatever lolol.
Ending with a preposition is a grammatical sin I am all too often guilty of.... myself.
oh my goodness find me a list of idiomatic verbs that end with prepositions that i can slap on the end of my sentences to make my boyfriend lose his mind. lol i'm so bad. but he's backed down on my preposition thing ever since i found something saying that it's old school and nobody has to follow that rule anymore, especially if doing it the "right" way sounds awkward and superfluous.

The university itself has on campus housing, but it is more geared towards the undergrads.
