I'd like to get some feedback on this as well. I'm going overseas for 2 weeks during winter break as well. I'll be back right after New Years. I would imagine most med schools aren't interviewing around the holiday season, but who really knows with the way things are going this year. Anyone have any ideas?

I think you should feel safe going on a vacation during that time. I was not offered one interview near the winter break/holiday season. My last interview in 2000 was on Nov 16th, and my first in 2001 was Jan. 23rd (i think). Most med schools close down from Dec 15-Jan 1 (at least), so you should be fine for that time period. Not sure how far in to January is safe, but at least from Dec 15th thru Jan 1 is good. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Winter break should be a relatively safe time. Even if you are offered an interview in that time period, you can reschedule, which shouldn't totally ruin your chances. And, as BeckyG mentioned, most schools do not interview right around the winter holidays. Plan your trip and bon voyage.

None of the schools I interviewed at did interviews during winter break. I know one of my friends interviewed for MD/PhD during that time however (early January). Be sure to check with the schools you are applying to before you make trip plans if you are really concerned. Winter break is still relatively early in the interview process though, so if you had to reschedule from then it probably wouldn't hurt your chances.

Here's a suggestion: go to www.interviewfeedback.com and choose the medical schools to which you are applying to.... you'll notice when the applicants interviewed and when they did not.... With those dates you posted, I personally, don't see any probs.... Good luck

I think a lot of people would jump at the chance to do interviews over break (I would be one of such people), because it has hard to interview at some of the far away places while school is in session. So if other people are like me, there should be no problem with you giving up our "choice" time slots!

I have communicated with over 26 Adcomms about interview preference, and they are all very flexible. I'm gonna be in Spain from mid January until June, and all schools except UCI and Boston U said that they would allow me to interview before I leave if I request so. I also know that if you are on long distance interview, say NY, you can call all schools in the area and ask them to review your file and decide on interview status. This saves lots of airfare expense.

Dude, I need to have my interviews over winter break. I've got 3 labs/week fall semester, and at my school, you can't miss or make up most labs. I also think that any past data reharding interview timing can go right out the window. It just doesn't apply this year. Yeah, other years interviews happened in september, october, november. Of course, those years AMCAS apps started getting submitted June 1st (not June 21st). Schools began receiving them (in full) around June 15th (not september 15th).
