When do medical schools typically begin meeting again after the new year and making decisions/interview invites? I am away from school until jan 15th and have no access to my mail. Anyone from past application years have experience with this problem? if i get an acceptance, i heard a nasty rumor that i must respond within 2 weeks, is this true?

I don't know the answer to your question, but you can set up temporary mail forwarding from the US Post Office website. I would find out what the processing time for this is though first. I think its something like 1-2 weeks. I can dig out the link if you need it.

i tried to get my mail forwarded home from school but since i live in a fraternity with one mailing address, the postoffice did not let me have my mail forwarded without forwarding ALL 45 other people's mail. anyone know if ill run into a problem being away from my mail for 3 weeks?

Thats unusual. The person you talked to must not have known the rules, since it specifically said when I did it that the mail will be forwarded for to the new address for this person only and no one else. I was in the situation you are in (living in a fraternity) and although I didn't try it then, I have done it successfully from an apartment where I shared my address with 4 other people. Hope that helps. To address your question more specifically, just call the places and let them know, they will tell you whether u got in or not or whatever else you need. They are usually quite accomodating.
