I know this is not related to pre pharmacy but I was wondering, what is everyone doing over thanksgiving/winter break?

I am doing a lot of stuff over thanksgiving like help my mom clean up the house so she can sell her house in the spring time. I am going to my Aunt's house to eat some turkey over thanksgiving. My mom and I also going to cook turkey to help feed the poor at a church in Downtown Denver.

For winter break, I am most likely going to go to the mountains maybe snowboard or walk my akita and then spend christmas and new years here in my house.

When you going to take the test?

I'm going to take it when I feel ready. No rush really. I get a nice $1 raise when I pass, but other than that is isn't really important. I just wanted to get it down over break (the majority of studying at least) so that Spring can be dedicated to the PCAT.

My pharmacy manager put up a volunteer sheet with the holidays listed so we could write our names on it if we felt like working, so I didn't talk to her I just wrote my name down, but then she was like, "You want to work both days?!" lol

And good luck with getting a job with Walgreens! I've been with them since May and so far I like it... the way I got a job with them is I went to a job fair that they were at and gave my resume to one of the district peoples... then got interviewed by a district person and then by the pharmacy manager at the store I'm currently at... idk if this helps you but that's what I did. Before that happened I applied to CVS and Target and Publix but to no avail (except Target who called me after I was already at Walgreens🙄)

That's good you are volunteering!

Job fair? I had one in my university, I went in and talked to a lot of people. But you are right though, I should have given all the companies (walgreens, target, walmart, costco... etc...) my resume so the employer see that I am trying to get a job 🙂laugh: target called you after you got your job at Walgreens? Wow!).

I will use your advice and go to the next job fair after winter break. Hopefully, I can get a job by that time!

I'm cleaning out all the useless crap in my apartment in preparation for moving in May to start rotations. I may even start packing the stuff that never use. I'm doing most of my rotations out of town so I'm giving up my apartment to save money. See, I can't wait to get out of this place.

Yeah I know some schools where people have the ENTIRE week off!! *so jealous* but anyway, no my school is still in session M, T, and W, as usual...when I posted that I thought I had school on Thursday for some reason (my prof made a mistake on his schedule). I'm excited about my days off though 😛

My finals are coming up too! only like 1-2 weeks of school left after thanksgiving.

I never been to New York, but I am sure you are going to have some fun!! I been to the east coast though like florida. I love florida!

at least you are working to get experience and maybe you will have a better chance to get a really good job after pharmacy school than the other fellows that slack off during break...

I think it is horribe that you and my mom (a professor too) have classes during the week when everyone slacks off. Maybe you should slack off too on thanksgiving and buy the pie from the grocery store...

It is not that hard! If you make it, it taste so much better than the supermarket. Here is a picture that I found. I haven't ate junk food (I am mostly dairy and candy free person) for so long that I was drooling for a while over that nice apple pie haha....

I only work at the pharmacy 2 nights a week and 1 weekend a month. After I graduated from college and got my full-time job I decided I couldn't part with CVS because I wanted to be able to work as an intern when I got into pharmacy school. Also didn't want to hassle with all the paperwork over again. So for now...I'm kind of a work-a-holic!

I'm not saying it should be closed for Spring Break, but these are the days it should be closed, and if you go back 10 years ago, it was likely that the pharmacy was closed just like every other business.

Labor Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

That is 9/365 days that the pharmacy is closed, you think that is too much? If they run out of medication, they can easily refill their medications the day before the holiday, or if they had to go to the hospital, the hospital usually gives a few days worth if they were inpatient, there also are 24 hour pharmacies for these exceptions.

The one drug I don't sympathize with people for is birth control, which I see this happen every time I work at the 24 hour pharmacy. Basically, they dropped off their script at the regular CVS and the pharmacy actually closed on the dot(we walk out the door at 6PM), they come running to the 24 hour pharmacy.

You're telling me you can't go without sex for 1 day?

Yeah the casinos are replacing the traditional slots with computerized slots, which still pay out the same. Who plays slots, anyway? That's pretty much a guaranteed loss. Better bet is blackjack where the house advantage is lower...assuming you know how to play.

No it's in Capital Hill. It takes me nearly an hour to get to school from door-to-door. Besides that, it's a really crappy apartment. You don't want it.
