Dude.

This is getting f^(&ing ridiculous.

In the 11 years I've been keeping track, the SoCal ski resorts have never opened this late, and there isn't even a window of opportunity in sight for them to get going right now. Maybe the weekend after this one. Maybe.

I guess I could drive the 5 hours to Mammoth, and ride hardpacked refreeze over hidden rocks. I just might have to resort to that if nothing changes soon. At least the groomed runs would be OK for the season's first turns.

I'm losing my goddamn mind here.

Though playing Shaun White Snowboarding on the Wii kinda helps.

I did our first skiing casualty friday. A snowboarder hit a rock at Wolfcreek and broke his patella. we got about 10-14 inches on Thanksgiving.

yeah I was feeling pretty down after the entire month of november was around 90 degrees in southern California. I'm up near the bay area for Thanksgiving and we spent a few days in the Santa Cruz mountains, no snow there but it reminded me that cooler weather still exists some places. winter will come!

Come east. It was a cold-ass summer, cold-ass fall, and now it's setting-up to be a cold-ass winter. I can't fully explain the regional variances, but I definitely don't believe the global warming fearmongers. I just think SoCal is so full of hot air and bullsh*t that you can't get a good snowstorm up in the mountains either.

ENSO + Sun variation = climate anomalies. That's all you need to know. Google it.

Seriously, I had to snowblow my driveway today for the 3rd time this fall. I went ice fishing before thanksgiving for the first time in my life.

Jet, can you say GAMBLER'S ANONYMOUS?

I always got accused of being a gambling addict and lying about poker winnings back in the med school LDR at-the-casino-all-the-damn-time days.

Until it got to the years when I had to report it on my taxes.

And then when it payed for the engagement rock, didn't hear another peep more after that.

Nowadays- I donno- the poker fire isn't burning so bright. For one thing, drinks at the LA casinos are not free, and that was a big part of my New Orleans poker playing (what with med school being all stressful and stuff). I also hate driving in LA traffic to get there, instead of a five minute jaunt down Tchoup. That and I'm way more tired nowadays than I ever was in med school.

What really keeps me going these days is the outdoor stuff.

I'm an adrenaline junkie. Always have been, always will be.

And if I'm not dodging trees in knee-deep snow (or getting barreled back at home), then life is suboptimal.

Snowboarding and surfing define me.

And right now, I'm hung out to dry without either.

Poker is fun, poker is great, poker is so very, very profitable.

But poker doesn't give me The Rush anymore.

That won't come till it snows.

As far as fun factor goes:

And then:

But there are down days:

See Jet, fun for me means money flowing out of my pockets, not into them.

Snowboarding and surfing define me.

I think the quote is "snowboarding and surfing complete me" (not to be stated around the wifey...

 Try intubating coding patients with a tongue depressor, an eye patch and a 8.5 ETT - I bet that'll get your adrenaline going. [Haven't tried it, but it might be fun...]

Sho 'nuff.

Nice. I'm gonna go take my first turns this weekend on my local hill with a single snow-blown run open, and I'm pretty stoked to even get to go do that finally.

Sounds like a big storm may be headed our way early next week, I frigging hope so.
