Anyone know how interviews and acceptances work during December/early January? I know for some acceptances, we have to accept within a week or 2.

I might be out of the country for a month or so. Is it safe to take my break or should I cancel and stay put. Definitely dont want to miss any interviews or acceptances, etc.

Also, can we schedule our own interviews or do they just give us a date and we have to go by that?

It's probably safe to assume that interviews are going on so long as schools are in session, meaning that there will only be a 2-3 week period during December/January where no interviews will be scheduled.

In my experience, schools assign the interview date, but you can always ask for a different date when you confirm the appointment.

And for early acceptances, you have more than 2 weeks to accept. I can't remember exactly how long though.

If you make the first batch of acceptances you're usually granted about a month to respond. As for interviews, I think the earlier you interview the better. So if you reschedule, try to make it before, not after your trip.

I wouldn't leave the country between Nov-Jan if I were you. It's hard enough to get interviews these days as it is. You don't want to add any further complications to this hectic process. Besides, some schools don't even guarantee to reschedule your interview and some don't even consider rescheduling it unless your school sends them a letter saying that you have a final or something on that specific date. So, just stick around, go to your interviews, and when you get accepted pay your deposit and leave.

Thanks nze... appreciate it.

Printer,

Look at the school calendars for the schools in which are applying. If your vacation falls within their winter break, then you are in pretty safe taking that vacation. They aren't going to interview during the break.
