Hello all!

I have posted before, but I just wanted to see if there were any students or others on here who could give me their experiences with these schools. I know everyone will say go to the cheapest school but I really want to hear from current students who can give any advice not considering just tuition cost. How is it living in the respective cities, how is the community between students, is the area dog friendly (bigger sized dog)? How are the classes and relative stress levels? Can you work at the farms or hospital while a student? And just anyone’s overall experience. Thank you!!

Hi! I cannot offer info on schools but I lived in Madison for one of my gap years so if you have questions about the city itself I can absolutely answer those. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and if I had gotten in state residency and gotten in instate I would have 10000% stayed there. Friendly people, rent was good (in my opinion-but I also have lived in NYC and Boston where it’s just the hunger games for housing) and I always felt like I had something to do outside of work which was really good for my mental health. Otherwise- you have fantastic options good luck🫶

Hi, current UMN fourth year. Overall my experience has been great, both at school and in the Twin Cities. I think the school is overwhelmingly receptive to student feedback, almost to the point that I’m shocked by it. We get weekly surveys to provide feedback on how things are going, and the next week we get feedback on how the admin is responding to the previous week’s feedback. Same with end-of-semester surveys. I have always felt supported here, and my personal experience has been that this isn’t a school with competitive between students. That was a very important factor for me when choosing a school, and I’m happy to report that UMN has lived up to that hype.

I don’t have dogs, but we have a pet room that you can keep your dog if you’re going to be on campus all day. I have several classmates with large dogs (huskies and bullies) who use that room, and it sounds like that works for them. There’s also a lot of hiking and walking trails, as well as dog parks, in the cities. I feel like most people are pretty receptive to dogs, like having them at breweries and stuff.

As for stress, yeahhhh it is stressful. Everywhere you go will be stressful. But as I mentioned above, I feel like the school tries to alleviate as much stress as possible so that the only thing you really have to worry about is school itself.

There are on-campus job opportunities- for example, the clin path lab basically always has openings for student workers. I’m not a large animal person, but I think there may have been farm stuff as well?

If you have other questions specific to UMN please feel free to ask!
