Would it be okay to get a LOR from my primary doctor? He is a D.O. Or, should I actually go shadow a doctor and ask for a LOR?

Depending on the schools, they may or may not accept a LOR from a relative, family doctor, or parent.

Please call the schools you applied to and ask them, make sure they understand its your family doctor as appose to a doctor.

The family doctor letter would probably only be ok if you shadowed him. I got a letter from a MD I work with, and I received my first acceptance, from DMU, today.

use it- he knows you well, and would probably be a good recommender....

It's perfectly acceptable. Just make sure you meet with your family physician and/or present him with your CV and/or shadow with him or her for a short time.

I don't see how using a family physician would hurt you. That person has presumably known you for a lengthy period of time...
