Withdraw due to MCAT

I've already submitted the primary application to AMCAS and it has been processed. I've done about 20-30% of my secondary apps. When my MCAT score came out last week, it is not something I am proud of, and will retake. To be courteous, I'd like to withdraw from all of the secondary apps to communicate to the schools that I am not following through with this application cycle. How can I do that? Email every admissions office? Most secondary apps do not have a withdraw option, and neither does AMCAS.

Or call them or snail mail them or do letters in blood if you want it have an effect.

Take that MCAT early next cycle to figure out your situation ahead of time. March or April are good. 👍

I just thought there would've been an easier way of communicating my decision to reapply to them- such as AMCAS. How much explanation would you give in a situation like this? i.e. during a phone call or through an email? Is anyone else in this situation out there?

no explanation is necessary. You will probably be talking to an admissions secretary or withdrawing through their website. It's more like a business transaction. You don't want to be rude, but at this stage you are just a number.

Why withdraw from the schools that your already complete at? After all you've already put in the time to fill out the applications and have also already paid their secondary fee.

If I were you I would just start to prepare and plan as if your going to have to reapply next year, but I would not withdraw my app from the schools that I was already complete at as there is no advantage to that - you'd still be a reapplicant to those schools next year. You might as well let those apps ride and see what happens, you might be surprised.

Couldn't agree more, you have already spent the dough. Roll the dice and see what happens. Unless your MCAT was so far off. Shoot us your score.

How "bad" was the score? 17? 18? Are you a resident of one of the WICHE states?

Like nabeel76 said, if you're conceding that you'll be a re-applicant anyway, why not just wait it out at the schools to which you've already submitted secondaries and see what happens? You never know what can happen.

Seriously, you would be surprised when it comes to "bad" MCAT scores ... I speak from experience. Now, go out there and get 'em! You'll never know unless you try. 🙂
