Hi guys, I am just wondering what are my chances to get into dental school. I have spent 6 years at university (UBC in Vancouver) because I had to spend first two years to learn English and finish high school-equivalent courses at community college. I guess my GPA will be 87~88% by the time I graduate next year. I am working as a volunteer with my dentist this summer, and I have other volunteer experiences too.

The only thing I’m very worried is four Ws on my transcript.🙁 I got one W per year for the first four years. But three of them were non-important elective courses…I made a wrong choice and I had to drop them cause it was a torture to study something I wasn’t even interested. The only one that I had to really drop was English…My English as a second language was not good enough to follow university level English... I don’t have any W in my last two years at university though, and I have got straight A for last two years.🙂

Do you guys think my chance to get into dental school is low because of the four Ws on my transcript? Dentist is the only job I can think of for my life, and I’m really scared...What do you guys think?

I am in a similar boat because I have two W's on my transcript. I really don't know, and I've been asking around for advice on the issue. I think from what I have gathered is that it will hurt your application, and you may be asked to explain it to dental schools, but it doesn't disqualify you from admission. That is my take on it.

From what I've heard, its not good, but it won't make or break you unless your borderline anyway. Unless you have 15+ withdrawals…..

Keep doing well in all of your classes to show the admission committe that you are really different now. I really don't think that 4 Ws will affect that much. Just make sure that you work hard on your application and show them that you are a well rounded applicant. For example, get good LOR, personal statement, DAT, volunteer hours..etc.
