I'm not sure what's the appropriate way to withdraw after I accepted the acceptance offer. Post-secondary, I withdrew by email and that was fine. But since with an acceptance, I had to sign a form and mail it back to the school, I'm not sure if I should write a formal letter to withdraw, or if an email would suffice. Anyone know?

Email is fine; offer to send a printed letter via snail mail if the school requests one, but most of the time they'll accept an email.

might want to call so you make sure you know how to get your deposit back...

Schools know that plenty of people are going to withdraw their acceptances prior to May 15. As you rightly point out, however, you did accept the admission offer. An e-mail is perfectly adequate but the idea of sending a nice letter to withdraw strikes me as being very classy. Try to leave 'em smiling if you can!
