So I'm lucky enough to have options where I can withdraw from schools that are lower on my list. I would go to all but I just don't have that kind of money. Should I just email the school? Or is it best to call? Would it be unethical to ask to reschedule the interview for after October 15th to see if I get an acceptance from other schools and then withdraw if the others come through. I feel like that should be okay, but want to make sure I don't get in trouble. I know schools can only interview a limited amount of candidates so how long before an interview is it appropriate to cancel?

I already searched for this but didn't find any good answers. I know most people wait until an acceptance but I'd rather use my money for schools I'm more serious about.

A quick e-mail to admissions should suffice. If they don't write back to confirm that they received your e-mail, then you might want to call to double-check.

Try rescheduling to after October 15th, that way in the event you don't get into any of your top choices you haven't shot yourself in the foot. The worst that can happen is they don't offer to reschedule, at which point you can decline the II because of a "scheduling conflict".
