any opinions on withdrawing post-secondary?

im thinking of dodging out of nyu and uminn, nyu due to location (i had never been to nyc when i applied, now i have and it's really exciting but not my cup of tea long-term) and adminstrative issues (losing my secondary, finding it, and then changing the word limit so i would have rewrite everything) and uminn due to administrative issues (turns out they require the recommender rating forms, and to me no school is worth burdening my recommenders w/rating forms)

should i just wait it out with my incomplete applications, or is it better to withdraw now? and as an aside, ever heard of the application fee being returned?

thanks for any advice!

you won't get your fee back, so it doesn't matter when you do.

My advice is not to cancel or withdraw applications at this point. It's too early. You want to keep as many applications open as possible...it's all about options, options, options (keep 'em open). Now if you get like 20 interviews and have been accepted at a few places you would highly consider matriculating into, then go ahead and deep six some programs.

General rule of thumb...before you express your disinterest in their program, let them make the first move 🙂 All of this applications stuff is like one big chess game.
