Hi SDNers,

Quick question. I was wondering how one goes about withdrawing their application from a certain school? For instance, I submitted my AMCAS and received a secondary from a school that I no longer wish to apply to. Do I just not turn in their secondary application in order to "withdraw," or do I have to go through some formal thing like calling the school up and letting them know? Thanks guys! 🙂

This obviously won't work for all schools, but for some that have online secondaries, I've seen an option on there to withdraw your application. So, if they send you a link to an online secondary, you should sign in and see if there's a withdraw button/link on there or instructions on how to do so.

The appropriate thing to do is send them a signed letter.

Send a letter, its appropriate. But even then you will get some rejections from schools you withdrew from months ago - kind of funny.

To Whom It May Concern:

After careful consideration I have decided to withdraw my application for the _____School of Medicine Class of 2012. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Your name here.

Maybe you can deduct your "donation" from your taxes. You cannot get it back. J/K.
