A regular Master's will help very little in this situation.

Stay away from Masters, do stellar on MCAT and SMP and EC's, then there's a chance. SMP's accept 3.1 students

It matters more for non-MD applications.
For MD, we already know what the usual reasons for withdrawal are.

I know someone that was asked to leave a BS/MD at my UG, but she had a 3.8 and it was her MCAT that was the issue.

In any case, she's now in Carib. A bad choice IMO.

I think your friend should enter an SMP and do really well on the MCAT. obviously, much easier said than done.
