Witholding Step 2 score

I am considering withholding my Step 2 score to make sure I do well before I release it to residency programs. Will programs know through ERAS that I am withholding my score? How should I answer if a program asks me when I plan to take Step 2, eventhough I already may have but haven't received my score yet? Would residency programs be pissed if they find out I withheld my score because the test date is earlier than when I interviewed? I don't want to lie and screw myself over if I do well and decide to release my scores.

I took Step II a few weeks after interview season. Nobody asked when I was taking it, and I think most programs don't really care. If you're worried about your score, just take it after interviews are over.
