I was placed on 3 WLs with no acceptances for the 2009-2010 season. Today, I received a background check e-mail request... does this mean there maybe an acceptance coming my way???? Or could it be from one of the schools I am applying to for 2010-2011? Do any school request BG checks BEFORE they even have your primary??? Sorry... I just am stressed out and nervous now.. not sure how to interpret this. I really really nervous...:scared: Any advice would be good. Also, I am not signed up for any post bacs or SMPs so I know its not from that.

As we get late into the waitlist season schools are making sure they get everything done in time for last minute drops. Many schools are background checking anyone near the top of their lists so that they can fill positions. It doesn't neccessarily mean you were accepted, but it is a good sign that you might be towards the top of the lists since it costs schools money to run checks on applicants, so they will prioritize how many students they check.

Keep in mind though that they will check more than they can see themselves accepting just in case something unexpected happens. Lets say they normally get 10 late acceptances. Maybe they run background checks on 20 waitlist candidates, just in case.

🙁 That sucks. God I am so sick of feeling jerked around... Oh well at least I won't be getting excited for anything then.
