was your job as DA with a GP or specialist?
were your 20 shadowing hours with a GP or specialist?

I did my 200 hours of volunteering as a licensed DA for a GP and the 6 months coop was split between half pediatric and half ortho.
The 20 shadowing hours were all with GPs.

I haven't done too much research on schools yet but I want to stay around the New England area so these are some of them minus uc schools

Why did you choose UCLA and UCSF then? And why Michigan?

You hit all the Ivies while having no research on your profile...???

UNE, Rutgers, Buffalo, Temple, and Maryland make sense if you want to stay near New England. With BU, Tufts, UConn, and the Ivies, that puts you at 11. SUNY is nice, but I have to check OOS stats regarding taking MA applicants.

Please include a list of schools you are interested in applying to! It is much easier for users to help you when you have taken the time to construct your own school list first!

I like the UC's campus and just being in a warm environment and michigan because I'm a legacy if that matters for applications. Would you say research is necessary to apply to Ivies?

UCSF isn't always warm but I understand if you've been in New England for most of your life. Legacy status can help at Michigan, but there should be mechanisms to not let that influence decisions too much (especially at Michigan, where admissions has generally been of interest).

Ivy culture, I think, is research-oriented in general. Lots of students who go there strive for research to position themselves for competitive specialties to pay off the debt most of them will have (if their families don't have the money upfront). You can check students' perceptions of this because I'm sure you aren't required to have it... but you will have the pressure to do it. Academic dentistry isn't as huge as academic medicine, but you still need researchers and professors.
