WMed
Pros:
Half tuition scholarship
Closer to home (chicago)
Got a better vibe from the school
Faculty seemed extremely nice
Cons:
Very new so no placement info
Didnt like kalamazoo
No anatomy/dissection
STEP after 3rd year

WVU
Pros:
Established, decently ranked school
Loved Morgantown
Students seemed very happy
Faculty were very fun to talk to
Cons:
Hard to get to by way of airport
Very far from home
No scholarships

If WMed had more of a reputation, i think the choice would be clear. The fact that I'm the 4th class kind of scares me but my gut is telling me I'd be more happy at WMed.

What are your career goals ?
Wmed has dissection elective m4.
They will place fine throughout the Midwest . They have internal medicine, gen surgery , Ortho, peds and fm home programs so you should be fine placing in those specialties.
Unless you are trying for nsg , derm, ent, the most competitive of specialties you should be fine.

Ideally I'd like derm, ortho, anesthesia, or cardio. Surgery and Gastro aren't out of the question, however.

I would go with wvu. It's not that you can't place in hose from wmed, it's just you are going to have to figure out how to craft an app for something like derm when there is zero derm research at the school and such.
Residency Programs | School of Medicine | West Virginia University

If you are trying for anything on this list you should be fine at wmed.
Residency & Fellowship Programs | WMed

It's not that it will be impossible you will have to find the opportunities yourself at wmed.

Is that improved odds worth the extra 100k ? I mean you could totally bomb step 1 and be left with fm and the added 100k in debt.

I'd save the 100k and go to WMed. If you do well on step 1 and are still gunning for derm, you can just take a research year (which has become almost necessary in derm/super compettive fields). Derm is as competitive as it gets. People from the very top schools often take research years to become competitive enough and even then there are plenty who don't match. It's obviously even harder at schools further down the list so you'll need to have a perfect app. If you go to WVU and get a subpar step 1, your chances at derm will be slim to none and you'll be 100k more in debt. It's also common to change your mind about specialty, so it might be nice to have less money pressure if you decide on a lower paying specialty.
