my PI submitted a grade of "WN" (withdrawn, never attended) for me since I haven't shown up in lab for 3 weeks but registered for research credits. It's not for academic reasons- only because I didn't show up and didn't contact him during that period. Does this look bad, if so is there anything I can do? I already sent in my transcript to AMCAS and will be submitting my primary app soon. Unfortunately, most withdrawals are irreversible 🙁

It's going to look bad not in a GPA-hurting type a way, but a this person is not very responsible type of a way. It definitely is going to give the idea to adcoms that you can't hold a commitment. The fact that you didn't tell the professor that you didn't want to work in the lab anymore and just didn't show up is pretty immature and disrespectful. How long does it take to write such an email, 5 minutes maybe? You're going to have to explain this in your primary or secondary or risk having this be a potential red flag. Fortunately for you, you can spin this however you want.

The question isn't 'how will this look' but rather, 'why would you do that'? I wouldn't accept you as a friend, much less med school (of course other things on your app, may slightly offset this--but you get my point).

I didn't do it intentionally. I left the country during the last week of June due to an emergency with my grandparents and ended up staying there until this past week. I forgot about my class during this time and regardless, did not have internet access where they live (they don't even have a phone)...I didn't think it was a big deal until my bro mentioned that it'll be an "uphill battle" for me now...
also, I sent a transcript to amcas in may...do I have to send them a new one now to match my primary app?

Stop being a drama queen.

It will most likely be taken like a normal W op. As long as you don't have a ton then it probably won't be a problem.
