I shadowed and shadowed and shadowed. The DPM' that I shadowed love their jobs, enjoy what they do, touch lives, are adored by their patients, get uncountable referrals, are very well respected by other practitioners of medicine, have authored medical and surgical textbooks and peer review articles, and are experts in their chosen field.

These WONDERFUL DPM's are very well rounded and knowledgable people: they can talk medicine, they can talk sports, they can talk politics, they can talk pop culture, and the list goes on and on.

That's excellent news and encouraging. Now you have a great role model. I hope that your experience will prove to be as positive when meeting other DPM's.

When I was in training many years ago, I met many wonderful and talented DPM's, and some that weren't so "talented" or ethical. However, I attempted to turn each encounter into a positive learning experience. I ended up learning as much from each doctor. Naturally, I emulated the talented and ethical doctors, and I learned how NOT to practice and how I did NOT want to treat patients from the untalented/unethical doctors.

Therefore, I was able to learn from each type of doctor and attempted to turn each experience into a positive interaction.

Having a positive role model is always a great opportunity, so spend as much time with this doctor as possible. It can only benefit you in the long run.

Best of luck with your future.
