Hello. I would like opportunities to shadow working Podiatrists. What is the best way to make observation requests: telephone calls, in-person, knowing someone who knows someone who knows a DPM, a letter, an email? Thanks. I am not a shy individual, but I simply want to obtain these potential, valuable experiences in a professional and sound manner. Also, I am in the Denver/Boulder CO area so if you have Podiatrist recommendations, please feel free to make them. Cheers!

You can contact the pod schools and ask for an alumni in the area that would be willing to let you shadow. Call your top school and ask for an alumni, that way when the get the LOR, they'll see it was an alumni you shadowed. Or just try the yellow pages....

you can also go on the site for the american association of colleges of podiatric medicine and follow the link on the top to the DPM mentors, and from there you can contact a podiatrist in your area to shadow.

If you already have a list of podiatrists that you want to shadow, you can definately call, leave your contact information - and dop them an email to followup.

Good luck!

I have shadowed several pods and orthos in Idaho and Arkansas. I contacted my pre-med advisor and they would make recommendations. I have found them very helpful and the one I shadow now I found his office while driving around looking for an apartment. Shadowing has been great for me. I originally wanted to be a dentist(major fad👎 ) but after 50 hours of shadowing I turned my attention back to other fields and found PODIATRY😍 . The pods I've shadowed have been young and old, greta and bad; but the thing I've found is that the bad ones make it bad, the good ones make it good. Find one you like, from the school you want to attend and take notes.
