HF,

Your OAT score is pretty strong. Among the upper ranges of US opt acceptances, so there is little doubt that you will be accepted to your school of choice. Just in reading - I'm curious as to why you have dedicated yourself as such when you may stand a chance in gaining acceptance to Waterloo.
I had the same score, applied, and was accepted to PCO,ICO, and SCO out of fear of Waterloo's odds, but am currently fulfilling one more round to eliminate any future doubt. I'm sure our situations are far different, but my curiosity lies in knowing that being from Alberta, you stand a good chance provided you meet cut-offs (3.0 OMSAS equiv to approx 3.3 US (Amcas ?)). There were only a handful of Albertan applicants last year!!

hey REguy,

you know what...i was actually very scared of applying to waterloo for the same reason u listed... my odds! but im not sure if i should still send my aplication in?? i kinda want to goto the US anyways...

Wow, sounds like Waterloo is really hard to get in. I guess there's only 2 schools in Canada compare to, what, 16 schools here in the states. You guys got really good schools there, i wonder what more could they ask for. 🙄

😕 Its just super competitive. All those applications from across Canada to ONE freakin' school (we always hear about the waterloo rejects). That would kinda be like having 9 optometry schools in the US, instead of 16---suddenly, it becomes harder to get in!

Technically Waterloo is the only optometry school in Canada if you speak English (cuz the cirriculum of the other one is in French, and 80% of us dont speak it). Since theres no other "competition," naturally they Waterloo has a pool of the brightest students from all over Canada to pick from.

Fair enough then. It is competitive...and the convoluted app process and finicky course prereqs are almost turn-offs in themselves. ICO has a stellar support network for canucks - and those with whom I spoke mentioned quite a few were receiving healthy scholarships (after first year i think). You'll get the same edu anyway, albeit at a premium🙄 It's too bad school isn't subsidized the same way in the US as it is here, but I'm sure Americans don't mind keeping most of their paychecks either.

G'luck in September!!

SUNY does the same thing for the canucks -- we've got a few in our class, a bunch at the school.

Well, as far as being "Waterloo bound", I lay that end to rest in the hands of the admissions committee. Crapluckbethecase, I may see you in 2005 - save yer texts. Tough decision.

rsalis - just as an aside...I've heard that about SUNY. This summer I took a weekend road trip to Manhattan and saw the school (or a part of it) just by luck. We drove under the Lincoln tunnel and ended up on some 30ish# St. and there it was. That place is an energy-bin! I'm sure I got a wee fried by the stress radiating from everbody's foreheads....I won't mention how fun it was to park the Dodge Ram T-Diesal we took (is there a term for 33 pt parallel park)...of course, in principle - we had to do it with the trailer hitch on. But the deli sandwiches....our reason for going...are kick A!!

Hey btw - Happy Holidays to ya's all !!!

Hahahaha -- I can't imagine trying to park a Ram truck in Manhattan! NYC seems a little crazy at first, but it's a great city -- and you're right, the food is terrific!
