Now that the decisions have been sent out, I figure this is the only scientific way to finally answer the question of whether or not the way Dean Frantz's responses to thank you letters are worded have any correlation to being accepted outright to Columbia P&S...

edit: for those of you who do not fall into the above categories (didn't send a letter/didn't get a response), I created an addendum to this poll:

Haha, I think this thread is pretty amusing... but I'm really interested in seeing the results.

This is hilarious. Bump!

Did anyone actually get rejected. It seems not.

There have been post-interview rejections...either they just haven't voted, or maybe not writing a thank-you letter contributed to the rejection. Come on people, this is in the name of science and will contribute to the pool of knowledge for future generations of neurotic applicants.

Can you add options for the people who did not write letters? I want to see how important the letters are.

Can anyone tell me how to do this? 😕

I sent a letter, got no response, and then got waitlisted. That being said, I sent my Thank You straight to my interviewers office and not through admissions. I then wrote a letter of interest to frantz later on.

You can't edit polls after making them :^( This is why I've started adding a 'null/would like to see poll' vote option.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to vote the 6th option now, simply so I don't have to keep clicking 'view poll'.

mine said "i am optimistic about your chances for admissions." (acceptance)

i didnt send anything and i got waitlisted. if i find out that sending knick knacks is really the trick, then i wish i had never applied in the first place. ridiculous

frantz frants...goodness, from the sound of it this is a real autocrat

Come on people, let's get that sample size up there!

Very good poll OP

Has anyone gotten accepted without writing a thank-you letter? Just curious...I didn't send one (although, come to think of it, I definitely owed a debt of gratitude for taking two days off of work, paying $500 for a trip to NY after already paying abou6 $150 for primary and secondary apps, only to have my Columbia interviewer to ask me two questions and then leave the interview after fifteen minutes)...if writing a thank-you note actually sways a school such as Columbia (after all the work it takes to even be considered), then screw it, screw it big time

Hahahahaha. This is a great. I love how we kiss ass of some guy half or more of us never met. And then we "scientifically" try to see how successful ass-kissing is. I can't wait to go to med school somewhere that doesn't start with a C and end with -olumbia.

P.S. I don't even know if I am in or not because I don't care enough to check my mail. This whole process disgusts me.
P.P.S. However, I am still highly amused by and curious about this poll.

Seems as if you need yet another option - I didn't ever receive a response, but then was accepted.

See the links in the above posts 👍

didn't send a letter at all -accepted

the key is to see how long this can remain 0

And I think we're already disproving the belief that wording doesn't mean anything...although, it's not absolute.

I sent nothing and got in. For people who will no doubt be reading this after scouring Google (or its successor) and sweating bullets four or five years down the line, keep in mind that you positively do not have to write anything post-interview to get accepted.

To be fair, I meant to send a thank you letter but rudely prioritized other things over writing, so it never got sent.

Don't forget everyone - this poll means nothing unless we know what the general reject/waitlist/acceptance distribution is for the SDN population that votes in these kinds of things. I bet you the distribution among people who got letters and people who didn't will be practically the same.

How about: "I am optimistic about your chances for acceptances. I might add that it would be a real personal pleasure to have you with us here at P&S." -Accepted

this poll does not take into account whether you wrote a letter of intent or letter of interest. i personally wrote a letter of intent, received the "we will keep you in mind," and was accepted.

How long ago did you write your letter of intent? Was it right after the interview or not long before decisions were being made? Thanks.
