Hi All, I've got a regular non-clinical job M-F 8-5. Also interested in exploring opportunities to work as a part-time psychologist. Does anyone know someone who works as a part-time therapist for around 10 hours per week outside typical work hours (evenings, weekends only)?

I know a lot of people, especially VA folks, who have side practices for about 10 hours, give or take, a week.

Yes something like that. Any platforms/companies that can help you handle all billing/logistic stuff while allowing you to only work for 10hrs/week outside typical work hours?

Are you sure you can't learn about billing and other logistical stuff? I recommend trying to build a small independent practice before agreeing to give a large percentage of your practice income to a company. In addition to the loss of income, leaving the company might not be simple, even if your state makes non-competes illegal.

The people I know doing it aren't using those platforms, they're just doing their own billing. For small volume, it's pretty easy. Especially if you only take 2-3 payer sources. Just pick a couple of the highest paying ones and credential with those.

See which colleagues or IOP programs are running group therapies. Ask them if you can help out. Or offer to run a group therapy for some colleagues, if they provide the office space.

Group therapies pay really well.

If you do work for one of the "platform" agencies, be sure to get your own malpractice insurance. They may have a policy that you're technically on, but that is meant to protect them, not you. If you go out on your own, you'll need to do something to set yourself up as a business (e.g., get a business licensed in your state) and separate your personal assets from your work, such as establishing an LLC.

Those “services” pay very poorly, just like most/all other places where private equity has entered the equation. Pay is something ridiculous like $60-$70/session. Add in taking on more liability for less $$, and it becomes what I would consider…predatory.

But, taking the 30-60 minutes to fill out credentialing paperwork is too hard!
