Hi, im new to this site and had a question about some work experience i had a couple years ago that i want to put on my application for next year into med school. I worked in accounting at my uncles business (although i did some construction for him for about 1/3 of the time because i have alot of experience in it and he was doing some projects) for about 2 years. However, since he was really hurting financially, he just paid me under the table (I knew it might come back to haunt me but i kinda didn't hava a choice). I'm a little worried that if i put this on my med school application, that they might look up my tax returns (can they even do that?) and see that there is nothing there for the years that i worked and think that i lied to them or something so what should i do?

I can't say for sure that this has never come back to haunt someone in their application process, but I can almost guarantee that it wouldn't hurt you. Schools are more worried about lies concerning grades, MCAT scores, volunteer experiences, shadowing, etc...I really don't foresee adcoms sitting around verifying each and every applicant's work experience. I suppose if they were suspicious about an overly impressive application they might double check some stuff? I don't even know about that though. Anyway, I seriously wouldn't sweat it. You DID work for him- there's no lie there. If you're that worried about it, you could leave it off and just include any other work experience you have.
