Hi all,
I'm an MS I and have recently become interested in EM. I have learned from reading on this board, and also from talking with people here at school, that EM physicians typically work 10-12 12hr shifts per month. Is this correct? Someone said, 3 4-day weeks per month. I realize the work is stressful and demanding while on shift, but I didn't expect the hours to be that friendly. Also, (please correct me if I am wrong) I have heard figures of $120-$150 per hour?? That sounds pretty nice...36 hours per week for $175,000-$250,000 per year. I just wanted a little clarification on these numbers...I know it is not worth it to do it for the numbers, but that would certainly be a benefit.

Thanks in advance.

Yes and no. The current trend is actually reducing shift length to 8-10 hours and working 12 or so shifts per month.
