Hey to all,

Currently in a bind right now about staying the course with my current specialty.

I was hoping to find a specialty that has LOW stress, competitive or not, and switching into it. I don't know if I can complete residency the way things are going now. However, I would like to finish my training and make the degree worth something.

Thanks to all.

prventive med, fp, radiology= lo stress

anesthesia, surgery, orthopedics, ent, cardiology hi hi stress

I'll add psychiatry and pathology to low stress, which are good options to transfer as well.

Those who say FM residency is "low stress" obviously are not FM residents. I do not consider FM residency to be low stress. Yes there are rotations that are slow, but in general, it is stressfull (espically if FM is not what you really want). Our continuity clinic is very busy (we are only givin 15min per patient), and we have TONS of OB patients that we have to follow and deliver. Let me tell you, it is NOT fun when you have your hands full on a surgery rotation, and you suddenly get paged by L&D because 2 ofyour patients just arrived, and you must rush down there to deliver them.🙄

I was thinking the same thing when I saw FP on the list. I imagine people don't realize that you guys rotate through ICU's, L&D, General surgery, etc., as outside interns/residents. Most must think that you have a chilled out clinic and that you sit staring at uptodate.com all day...

I must also say pathology is not completely without stress...although granted it may be different types of stress than other fields.

General/Community Pediatrics?
